what do I need to adjust the heads on a pioneer rt-909 is ther a special tape to use
I thought i had commented, but don't see it, so I will give you a condensed answer.
You should only need to adjust heads if you have replaced them, or somone else messed up the adjustments. Adjusting the heads is not a normal maintenance item, and can actually create issues. Over time, tape wears grooves into standard metal heads like in your pioneer. The tape will usually travel fine in these grooves, but if you try and adjust the heads, the tape may get hung up in the groove. Yes there are special tapes that are used, but they are very pricey, and hard to find. The more important alignment tape is the one that is used for setting the azmuth of the play head. (usually 6.5khz tone on tracks 1 and 3, as well as 2 and 4.
