i had to work on the tuner indicator needle to replace bulb now tuning will not lock on fm stereo fm mono gets all kinds of stations ?
Replacing the bulb itself should have nothing to do with FM stereo not working.
Make sure you didn't disconnect any wires.
But it could be either Tuning adjustments required, or the FM stereo indicator burned out, making you think that stereo is not working.
seems like it was as simple as having antenna wires on correct terminals it is now locking on fm stereo definately a difference of sound quality over mono i think spraying tuner mechanism with deoxit should improve toolbar
I would not recommend spraying deoxit into the tuner mechanism at all. This can adversly affect unit.
The only thing I have done internally is put a very small drop of Deoxit Faderlube 100% liquid at the bearings and pivot points, and only this when the you get a scratch sound when tuning FM with muting off.
As far as tuning, I would only recommend that you get a flat blade alignment tool, and adjust the "TCA" screw first looking at the signam strength meter, and turn until you get it to "peak" on the signal strength meter. Then you can do the same with the "TCR" screw turning until you get it to "peak on the signal strength meter. You can do these 2 adjustments with the receiver tuned to a station above 103, that shows 1/2 full deflection on the signal strength meter. You will need to turn these screws ccw and cw to find the peak. You will also notice that the stereo light may go off, and on, depending on the signal strength.
I would not recommend turning or adjusting any other screws, or transformers, unless you know how to do full alignments
You can find the TCA and TCR screw locations in the service manual (page 11) available on this site.
thanks for the input how important is grounding of antenna?
Grounding is not important unless you are using 75 ohm antenna (Round cable). The flat 300 ohm "T" antennas do not require a ground
unit is working stereo indicator light is good when i switch between inputs light comes on for a split second then goes out get all kinds of stations in mono setting how do i adjust tuning?
what is the make and model of the receiver??
