New to the group. I have a Sansui 1000A and a SL-1200 Turtable. Any suggestions for floor speakers for this analog setup? Should I steer clear of "vintage" speakers?
Vintage speakers will work just fine, there are lots of affordable speakers out there that sound very good. I have an old pair (produced in 1984, bought in 1986) of communist-era Czechoslovakian Tesla speakers, 3-way, 25/75 watts and they sound fantastic. Driven by Pioneer SX-434, 15 watts per channel. Although the math doesn't fit (your amp should be more Watts than your speakers, see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUou_noD1Gc), my speakers' documentation says 15 watts is minimum to drive them and they sound great. Here's an interesting article: http://hometheaterreview.com/how-to-pick-the-right-amp-for-your-speakers...
See what your receiver manual says about ideal speaker wattage and use that as a guideline for finding speakers. Hope this helps some. Good luck.
