Yamaha HTR-5640 A/V Receiver diagnostic mode

Cheefroach's picture

Hey all. Quick question. My amp would quickly turn off right after powering up. I then went through the diagnostic mode and ran across a code stating: PS PRT 20%. Just wondering what that means. As far as I can tell, I need a replacement power supply. Anyone know where I can find one?

Hi

my advice is to ask to a good technician to recap all the power supply boards ...it's cheap and the amplifier will return as new and you can still enjoy it for a long time..

Re: Yamaha HTR-5640 A/V Receiver diagnostic mode

When ever I have an amp similure to your problem described, the most likely problem is solder connections and I fix a lot of amps with nothing more than a soldering iron. Inspect all semiconductors mounted on small heat sinks closely. Re-solder with additional flux if you got it. If the amp is old enough for variable pot controls for vol.,tone, ext.. clean with a deoxid contact cleaner all pots and switchs. Caps in the future if this holds up. If caps fix your problem first I'll buy lunch, and I seldom have to buy.

Also the power supply is probable good, no parts will be bad.
