This will completely ruin your day. A large electrolytic capacitor without a safety vent is a bomb waiting to go off in your face, like this one did to me.
Looks like an egg exploded. I watched a cap go POP in a monitor at a computer repair shop once. The picture soldiered on like a man not realizing he was shot, slowly losing sync like watching 25Hz TV but refusing to quit as the smoke wafted from the back until the store owner walked over and finally unplugged it.
Still, that was immaterial compared to yours.
OUCH! I hope my Pioneer SX-D7000 never does that! I remember all too vivdly the bang my SX-1500T made.
And then there is the electrolyte all over the place,
that would certainly wake one up.
