That is a killer review... I heard my best friends Dad play his at 1/4 volume on his stereo (a Scorpions Live disc)...at age 8... 20 years later I finally bought a set! I will post pics soon! I would like to ask you hifi enthusiasts opinion... i see a Pioneer 125W receiver at a store... could i run my PS3 to the receiver...then to the Dahlquists for a starter set up? All suggestions welcome! Thanks so much for your time !
Yes you can, but be careful. They swallow a lot of energy to run, and can cause you to run into distortion sooner than most speakers. I would strongly suggest you run whatever system you use on them set to flat tone. They're not loud. They don't have a lot of bass. They do everything else better than other speakers, instead. The surrounds around the woofers should be dry rotted about now. They can be re-coned and are worth doing it. They can teach you a lot about speaker placement, in that they really focus beautifully if you learn how to aim them just right. I owned a pair for around 15 years and found them to sound best near the center of the room. They don't like being near walls. Play just one and listen with your head about as squarely in front of the speaker as you can. Listen how the sound changes, as you move from side to side, and up and down. Focus the pair at your listening position and magic happens. Enjoy.
I heard a pair of these playing in another room at a HiFi Shop in Chattanooga in the early 1980's and they sounded like Willlie Nelson was in the next room playing!!! These are the only speakers that I would trade my Polk Audio RTA-11B's for. The best I have ever heard!!!
