Very nice! See here some illustrations and original versions. Below the speaker is installed in an organ.
Thanks for the link atee very usefull for when i start on a cab build.
What are those "ears"? are they a yamaha driver?
Yup they are Yamaha JA 6002 ear speakers from the late 60's. These are the largest at 3ft tall !!
cool stuff, didnt know they went so big, dont you have a cabinet for them?
Sadly not. Got a call from a friend who has a demolition company asking if i was interested in a 6ft speaker. I went the next day to pick it up from a church hall but when i arrived the hall had been flattened with no sign of my friend or a 6ft speaker just a spotty kid spraying water over what was left of the hall. I asked the kid about the speaker and he said they were unable to save it as it was "built in" but they did take out the ears. Spoke to my friend later on and he told me i should have been given the tweeters and mids, he was off site when the hall was raised to the ground. To this day we dont know what happend to the other drivers, all i know is the tweeters are very expensive to replace! One thing tho the ears were back to back in the cab with the other drivers sat below. Realy wish id seen it all together. Oh and i believe it was used with an organ.
Pomp, not sure about this, but when you say "ears", what exactly do you mean. Is it kinda like a couple of small-ish tapered horns mounted back to back? If so, could be something to do with a leslie sinning speaker, or not. 6ft seems way off leslie size though. IDK Just my 2 Penneth.
Oh wait sorry bout that. Connection is horribly slow in my area, and the photograph had not come up. Silly me, now I definitely see what you mean about ear speakers!!
Not sure who first called them ear speakers but i think im right in saying Yamaha have never called them that. I do wish they came as a mirrored pair tho.
