I just bought a Philips AH 785 receiver that looks very much like this 786 for 50 bucks!!! It works and sounds amazing, it is in mint condition except for a few burnt bulbs (easy peasy fix!!) I think I got an awesome deal!!! I'm looking for any pdf user/service manual documentation. I'm not sure when or where in the USA it was made but I figure sometime between 1975 and 1979. It is a beautiful example of the high quality hand assembled electronics of that era. It has a sticker on the back that says it was bought through or from "Phillips Electronics Scarborough Canada".
If anyone has any information about this receiver I would be very interested and thankful.
Also the hifiengine has no reference to the 785 receiver in the data base... so I assume that there aren't too many of these around anymore...
HI. I've had several receivers and separates from that line. I believe that they were made at the Magnavox plant in Ft. Wayne, Indiana after Philips bought them. They were quite well made and worked beautifully. I had to order some parts from Magnavox in Tennessee for my Philips power amp many years ago, and they were very helpful. The stuff was made like Mil-spec equipment. Hang on to that receiver!
