Service Manaul for Sansui 1000X

Hi there. yesterday I managed to acquire one of these beauties. I also have downloaded the Owner's Manaul from this page. The amp seems ok for all functions except that the Volume and Balance pots work a bit erratic. The balace is not balanced for the left track and the volume gives full power to Left when at 9 o'clock. Above 12 o'clock it's balanced for both tracks.

Any views from our expert friends? Can anybody share with me the Service Manaul and Diagrams for this reciever. I am greatful to HFE for the Owner's manual and to our friends for the views and info on the above stated issue.

Thanks, Kishor

Unbalanced Volume

I have a Sansui model 1000 that exhibits similar symptoms regarding unbalance at low volumes, but fine at 30% and greater. Not sure about the 1000x, but the 1000 uses a dual 500K volume pot. I found that the tolerance of my volume pot at low volume was significant enough to be the cause of my problem. For instance, when the left is about 1000 ohms, the right would be about 900 ohms. But at louder volume the two pots would be very close - like 150K compared to 150.1K. I also found that after cleaning the pot with a lubricated control cleaner, the problem worsened. Taking it apart (very carefully) amd measuring the ohms while sticking a hair dryer brought it back closer. That really surprised me. The lubricated liquid managed to get between the board and the carbon ring (inside the pot) and changed its resistance.

I live with mine slightly unblanced at low volume. The dual 500K pot with loudness tap and AC switch is near impossible to find. I suppose if yours has the same setup and problem, you could determine that by simply switching the 3 wires on the L pot with the R pot to see if the sypmtom follows. If so, you might be able to add a small compensating resistor in series with the pot (wiper) that is reading the lowest at low volume.

re: Unbalanced Volume

I have be experiencing similar problems, does anyone know a way to fix this?
