re: Mini Component Series 22

I just got 'mine' out from my Parents garage, I think it was there since I got my infinitely nastier but flashier (CD and Graphic Equaliser) system in 1987.

Amazingly, it's working and sounds great with the 1987 speakers (also Aiwa) as I need to get the Altec Lansing Model 5's that it had been sold with re-coned. They have rotted.

The metal parts are all in great shape but the knobs and tape buttons which I now realise are plastic have some corrosion. It's coming off a little with the metal polish I started with before realising what they are made of, but can anyone suggest a better cleaner for this surface?

I'll be looking into the upgrade suggestion, although I'm scared to much around too much as this has a bit of sentimental value given it's my Dads from around the time I was born.

In a word : Amazing !!!
For the size of the system, it is really excellent. 2x 30 watts (real) in a little box...
Toroidal transformer, 2 big transistors per channel, big cap in the amplifier etc...
You can easilly upgrade the preamp by swapping the 2 opamp (poor LM4558 by LM 4562) and changing the polarized chemical capacitors (it is almost an obligation !)
Except the opamp for the phono pre (LM4558) !!!
The tuner is not a gadget, it's very sensible and very musical.
But the cassette is a hard job, very hard to replace the belts !

re: Mini Component Series 22

I need to change the belts for the cassette player. Is there a service manual somewhere to download? I have only fond the service manual for the other 22series components.
Thanks,
