Akai GX-280D

Only top quality materials are used in the construction of Model GX-280D Tape Deck. Not only the new GX head and servo motor, but literally all parts are Akai designed and manufactured for absolute mechanical dependability. Each part is separately tested for durability and ability to withstand severe conditions.

The new Akai Model GX-280D employs a first rate quality 3-motor system. The most crucially important capstan drive motor is an epoch-making direct capstan drive servo motor which combines the winding control of the ordinary eddy-current motor and a speed detecting toothed cog-wheel into a single structure mechanism. Thus, the usual instrumental devices such as drive belt, idler, flywheel, etc are eliminated and tape speed travel is stabilized.

Because of the speed adjusting completely electrical control circuit, cycle revolutions are always perfectly adjusted. Therefore, tape speeds are extremely accurate and wow / flutter substantially decreased. Two eddy current, outer rotor motors assure smooth and stable supply and take-up reel drive.

Glass and Crystal Ferrite recording and playback heads, the cores of which are made of the gem crystal ferrite and the inner circumference of the head shield (including core and gap) mounted and set in glass. No adhesion of dust on the ceramic like head surface. Because of ideal hardness and friction characteristics, abrasion is practically nil. Guaranteed for 150,000 hours of service life! The crystal ferrite core possesses an exact amount of magnetism to form a bias field. By focusing the magnetic bias field, the bias influence is lessened for recording high frequencies without distortion.

The playback head is a uniquely designed shifting playback head enabling automatic reverse play. Heads are shielded for good S/N ratio. Frequency Response an amazing 30 to 24,000 Hz.

When the tape ends or is accidentally broken, the Automatic Stop/Shut-Off Lever is released and reel movement stops. If the Automatic Shut-Off Button is depressed, when the Shut-Off Lever is released, the power of the unit is cut off.

For use when using Akai Super Range Tape. This is a new low noise tape and is highly recommended for superior performance.

bought this machine yesterday.
Complete with Acrylic Cover
Remote Cable Control
in perfect condition

Even tapes from the early 70 s
still sound great.

The heavy weight indicates the solid construction.
