Dynaco Stereo 120

The Dynaco Stereo 120 is an all silicon transistor basic power amplifier for use with separate preamplifiers such as the Dynaco PAT-4 or PAT-5, or for use with tape recorders or tuners such as the FM-5 or AF-6, which have their own volume controls.

The unit contains two 60 watt amplifiers on one chassis with a common power supply.

Although the Stereo 120 is a solid state device, containing transistors and similar semiconductors, it has been designed to be used under normal conditions without special safety precautions, just as if it were a high grade tube amplifier.

Thus it can be connected to source and speaker components and used with confidence in all conventional arrangements.

There are no circuit breakers, speaker fuses, or other resettable devices to impede the use of the Stereo 120 under any reasonable conditions of use or abuse.

This is achieved by using novel circuits (on which patents are pending) which automatically and instantly protect the amplifier.

By the time I am done with one of these beasts, it would be a healthy 9. As found typically, seldom above a 4. One I found today would be a 4 cosmetically, and a 0 electronically as there was a 1/4 x 1/8 inch hole burnt through the power-supply board - not atypical.

Nice sounding amp. Get them cheap on EBay. VanAlstine web site has upgrades to power supply and other things. Very cheap to do. I promise you won't be disappointed.

re: Stereo 120

It's worth noting that the Stereo 120 amp is a single-ended design with a 72V power supply rail. That puts the output floating at 36V so a large electrolytic capacitor is needed to block this DC voltage from harming your speakers. Yes dear audiophiles--all the sound passes through an evil electrolytic capacitor!

A great vintage workhorse amplifier for the money!
