Digital to Analogue Convertor
In the TEAC D-2, when signals are transmitted between the digital and analogue PC boards, a signal which is 180 degrees out of phase is transmitted simultaneously; this prevents the leakage of the signal and noise current accompanying the signal from entering the analogue circuit.
Furthermore, even within the analogue PC board, the circuit between the D/A converter output and the line output is balanced to prevent the leakage of the signal current into the ground circuit with the result that a pure ground potential has been achieved which again contributes to the high-definition reproduction of sound.
To perform accurate D/A conversion, not only must the conversion steps of the D/A converter be accurate, high-precision reproduction of time axis is also indispensable. The D-2 employs a lithium tantalate VCO which has extremely low noise in its PLL circuit; to accurately transmit the time axis obtained from this to the D/A converter, a newly developed jitter canceller circuit is incorporated.
To minimize rounding-off errors in digital arithmetic operations, a 45-bit 8-times over-sampling digital filter is used. In order to convert accurately calculated 45-bit step information into 18-bit information, a newly developed noise shaper is incorporated. A resolution below the noise level has been achieved without truncating the ultra minute signal below 18-bits, thereby achieving a linearity at extremely low levels which had previously been impossible.
To eliminate mechanical and electrical interference, the digital section, analogue section, power supply section and power transformer section of the D-2 are each enclosed in independent boxes. Completely separate from each other electrically and mechanically, this eliminates mutual interference and the influence of external vibrations.
