Everything you ever wanted to know about JVC's CD-4 discrete 4-channel recording system.

When it became obvious that the next big advance in audio was going to be 4-channel records many manufacturers started independent research.

Most of them took the easy way; confining themselves to conventional record production technology they ended up with 2-channel matrix records which produce pseudo 4-channel sound.

A few though that maybe discrete 4-channel records where possible - but only one, JVC, saw this research through to actual production.
