Loudspeaker System (1983-84)
A typical rock or classical concert may have a dynamic range of 90dB or more.
New digital sources such as PCM recordings and the Compact Disc format can accurately reproduce this full dynamic range, but few existing speaker systems can.
Pioneer's new S-710 is one of the few speaker systems that can.
We use our new Polymer Graphite cone material in both the large 30cm woofer and the 10cm midrange. PGTM was developed specifically with wide dynamic range music in mind.
It can handle large amounts of input power without cone breakup and without creating distortion. Its excellent damping characteristics means no unwanted ringing.
The tweeter is also designed to handle wide dynamic range music.
Unlike some other ribbon tweeters, the edge is free to move, giving it far better piston like motion at all input levels.
Transient response is improved too since we reduced the moving mass in the aluminium ribbon to a minimum by eliminating the voice coil; the diaphragm acts as the voice coil.
The S-710 has a high level control behind the removable front grille, and has a rugged and beautiful vinyl walnut finish.
