The backbone of my studio/basement listening system (my primary system upstairs has the bigger SA-9500II as the centerpiece). What can I say - to me 10/10 really means it's perfect and here we are in October 2016 - now almost 40 years after this bad boy was built. What do I really really think? I really do think it is perfect of course and I have owned many many audio products over the years since buying my first amp as a teenager back in 1978 (you guessed it, it was the big brother SA-9500II). I later sold the first amp about a decade after first buying it while I explored many mid and high end systems over the years only to settle back down to find my original amp I always compared everything against. I honestly can't tell the difference between the SA-9500II and the SA-8500II in sound and I listen to both almost every day....
You would be well served with one of these bearing in mind their age now. They do require cleaning given the open switching etc but it is well worth keeping them well maintained given the price of new stuff these days.

re: SA-8500 II

Just did a complete recap. Thanks for the manual!

re: SA-8500

I have had this amp since they came out , it was badass then and still is. Im 62 and tuning up all my 70s equiptment my kids are early 30s and are blown away with what we had. Concidering we had to walk up hill both directions to get to school. They never heard a LP or a Reel to Reel. Thanks for the manuals.

Thank you for the manual.

re: SA-8500

I bought this amp back in Jan. 1977. It has not let me down yet, (the salesman at the time said, this amp is going to last you the rest of your life) And he was right!
I'm in my late 60's now ,and it still sounds crystal clear today.

Thank you for the spec.

re: SA-8500 II

Awesome, just got one of these badasses. Sounds great, but it needs a cleanup and runthrough. Any tips or warnings? I´ll check the forums I guess...

Thank you so much i dont have amp yet but cant wait thats why i need manual and some parts ifany one can help

re: SA-8500

The variable resistors in the service manual are incorrect for the junction point and idle current adjustments. The manual says to adjust VR3 & VR4 until the voltmeter reads 0V for the junction point adjustment, and VR1 & VR2 for the idle current adjustment at 30mV. The manual is backwards; it's safe to swap these and use VR1 & VR2 for junction point and VR3 & VR4 for idle current instead. This is backed up by posts from other users on Audiokarma.org. Just a FYI for anyone doing maintenance.
