This is a nice receiver. The tuner is especially strong.
It has a thick, solid plywood case with walnut veneer on outside, and a very conservative, 1960s-ish look to it, nothing flashy.
There is a very solid feel to everything.
Mine has a very warm sound to it. I really like it.
As far as 0.5% THD is concerned: Can you hear 0.5% THD?

My rating may seem a bit high, given the exact specs of this offering from Pioneer, but I think it's justified for the reason that this was an early-era solid state receiver breaking new ground for the company.
Decent power output at 50 WPC, excellent S/N ratio of 80-90DB, good damping and sensitivity, rock-solid construction with real wood cabinet, excellent power amps and internal components (for the day).
About the only knock on this unit is its mediocre THD at 0.5% which is higher than a lot of better units, esp in later Pioneers, Sansui's, Marantz's and such. However, can the human ear really detect the distortion at comfortable listening volumes? I seriously doubt it for the majority of us.
This early receiver helped Pioneer pave the way for bigger and better things, but should not be over-looked by audiophiles, esp. at the bargain prices they can be had for nowadays. 4-Stars for its place in audio history.
