re: Optimus 5B

I got a pair of these off a local used goods website, for $10. They sounded very bright in my secondary system (Nikko N700 receiver) so I didn't listen to them much.

I just put them in my main system, to finally really check them out. At first listen, they weren't very impressive. Then I decided to check the screws on the drivers.

Every midrange driver (two on each speaker, so four in total) were TERRIBLY loose. And a few on the huge woofers were loose as well.

After tightening, the sound really tightened up. These are a very good sounding speaker! They are a bit lacking in a liquid midrange (t least compared to my very much more expensive LINN Saras!) and a bit of upper frequency noise (maybe a recapping is in order?), but all-in-all a very decent speaker.
