re: SFL-1

I have this preamp but I am not sure I like it. Far to hybrid for me. I prefer the Mac sound. I find CD is Ok through it, but the SLF's phono direct is lacking bottom end. It is not the phono preamp or the cart. If I go direct to the tube mono blocks (SF0160's x 2) though a PS Audio GCPH Phono Pre with built in volume control, then we get lots of bottom end. I am running a Technics SP10MkII and a EPA100 Arm with a Cadenza Black on 15 inch Tannoy monitor gold's. I have even tried a tube box DS into the SFL-1 to give it a bit softer sound, but no luck.
If you listen to Cd's then you may like it. It is built like a tank and high quality components. Just does not have that tube sound.
P.S. the SF-160 tube mono blocks are great. I am going to pair these amps with a Luxman C-02 preamp next. They say they are warm sounding SS preamps with great SUT phono stage.
I will let you know the results shortly.
