The Sony CMT-CP33MD is a unique and versatile compact stereo system, especially if you are looking to make use of Minidiscs that you have come to love. It is elegant, well made, and provides abundant sound from even it's modest speakers. And attaching perhaps a pair of 6 inch or 8 inch 4 ohm to 6 ohm bookshelf speakers makes it simply amazing. I tried it with some Infinity 2000.2 speakers and I listen to this now more than my main system. The system power amplifier puts out a very healthy 25 to 35 watts RMS per channel depending on the speaker impedance used.
The controls and indicators are well thought out and having illuminated buttons for the CD, Minidisc, and Cassette players are both classy and functional. The Minidisc has full editing, song title, artist, and track position capabilities just as a separate component deck would. And when playing MD or CD, the song title and info are displayed on the multifunction panel that also serves as the Cassette compartment door. Ingenious!
This unit retailed for some $480 when it first came out and is a bargain for anyone finding one today under $200 in my opinion.
