re: SONY TA-333 Amplifier Repair

This is a lovely amplifier...as mid-market amplifiers go...

It does have a strange power supply system though!

If you have acquired one, and it either hums (Horribly off-key!) or keeps popping those circuit breakers next to the transformer... you might like to know that there's an easy fix!

Making sure the unit is off (Unplugged is great!), remove the top and bottom covers.

Directly underneath the 4 large capacitors (BIG Black Cans with a white stripe) you will find two three legged devices - one all black, the other black with a red side to it.

These are half-wave rectifiers - and they are just about at the end of their working life.

You'll need a good parts shop - you are looking for the same 1/2 wave rectifiers that are used in your common car amplifier, one Positive (AC/+/AC) and the other Negative (AC/-/AC).

Replace both - DONT GET THEM MIXED UP, the RED original is the Positive one...

Then press in the popped breaker next to the transformer, connect up and power on..

if you got something wrong that breaker pops really fast.. but, if everything else is OK, you'l be rewarded with a working amplifier !
