A clean sounding well built amplifier with enough inputs for enthusiasts that like to record to tape or computer. The controls are easy to use and the remote control will operate other Sony equipment like cd player, tape machine, tuner etc. The only criticism I have is about the lack of a preamp output for those who need to use a sub woofer or separate power amplifier. The build quality is by far the best I have come across in 40 years of owning different makes of hifi.

I used this for a while before moving on to the 530ES, which is clearly a step up - as would most of the older ES amps be I imagine.
These are essentially the same as the base ES TAFA3ES/30ES in a modern package and represent a bargain at sub £100, especially in light of the TAFA5ES/7ES etc. being vastly overpriced currently.
The main advantage to this over the former is it can still be found in clean condition and will not need recapping for years to come.
A common misconception is the output which is often quoted in DIN - these are about 60W RMS.
Still, an effortless, powerful sound with plenty of drive - with the magic ES low distortion figures!

The last QS-Topamp is also a descendend from the
basic last ES-Amp FA30ES with modified
powerstages. Sony fiddled endlessly with the
poweramps while stripping the phono-stage of its
MC capabilities (while still using the same
FA30ES pcb) only to spare a few cents in
production.. The build quality is good and
all`n`all its a satisfying amp for average
demands but clearly not a step forward from way
older Sony models in the same pricerange.
Today mostly overpriced in the used market.
