This was an excellent tape deck in the consumer class, at its time. In my comprehension, among the best of consumer tape decks of the era, very close to top hifi and reel-to-reel decks: the ear hardly could tell the difference.
I switched the TC-199 SD to TC-206 SD, as the latter had automatic peak level control when recording. And I got sorry, in audio quality the TC-199 SD clearly beat the more expensive TC-206 SD.
I have lots of recordings I did with the TC-199 SD, and even today those cassette tapes sound real rich in dynamic.
