Bought this deck second hand in 2004 and it worked well.
Of academic interest, in 2014 the TC-K650ES developed a fault - the display would go into spasms and the controls would not longer work properly. Pity, as the machine produced quality recordings.
I attempted to resolve the issue by replacing all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply (and Controller Board), including all the regulator transistors and even the inverting mode OP amps there. But all to no success; the same problem persisted. There is a big 64-pin controller chip on the main board which could have been at fault, but I was not prepared to spend $50 or so on a chance find that this would resolve the issue.

Sony TC-K650ES ..... failed to repair and now pending to be recycled.
