re: Amplifier and Tuner Line-Up

Dear JaS.

Having a huge amount of Japanese catalogues & analysing them, I would like to clarify something about Japanese catalogues/brochures in common & particularly for this document.

In the lower right corner on the last page of this brochure there is an inscription with the Japanese kanji and latin digits between the words. As You can see, the first latin digit in that inscription is 61, and the second latin digit is 7. To clarify the year of this document (like with any other Japanese catalogue/brochure that have similar inscription), You should plus to the figure of 61 another 1925 and you will have 1986 in summary. The resulting amount (summary) will be the exact year of issue. And the digit 7 is the month of issue of this document.

So having done this simple procedure of calculation it becomes clear that this document was issued (printed) in July 1986.

I don't know why it is necessary to add exactly a number of 1925 (may be it is connected with some Japanese chronology or with a significant national event), but this rule of clarifying the date of the Japanese catalogues works always correct.

Regards

re: Amplifier and Tuner Line-Up

1986 fits in with the chronology of the components in the catalogue.

The Shōwa period was from 1926-1989 though which would imply a 1987 catalogue if you are adding the 61 to the start of the period? Unless 1926 was year 1 rather than year 0, in which case as you say, it's 1986.

It would be interesting to see if the same applies to post 1989 documents? ie 1989 as year 1.

re: Amplifier and Tuner Line-Up

Very good schedule, JaS.

I can say that almost all domestic participants in different Japanese Hi-Fi forums use exactly 1925 year as the start (0 - zero) year in chronology of audio documents, especially with the catalogues & brochures.
