Now that I have a SA8000x and SA8500x I can compare both and say that at least in stereo, there isn't so much difference in power. The sound with the 8500x is more clear, maybe due to advances inside(It is totally different from 8000x). It's difficult to select one as the best since each has its own qualities . Resuming , I love both, it's great to see the aluminum knobs and face cleaned and shining, all the lights and VU meters working and sometimes open it to see the components inside, amazing 20 century technology in your hands for a few dollars . Technics forever.
