I bought this receiver in 1998 then purchased the SH-AC500D surround processor shortly after. It was my first venture into surround sound movie DVDs.
I paid about $300 for each component. I had purchased Technic speakers to use with it, I still use those speakers now accept the sub which I upgraded.
I was very happy with the AX720! Not only was it aesthetically pleasing (AKA cool looking) but it performed brilliantly and combined with the decoder I was able to listen to my DVDs in proper surround sound.. it was heaven and the Technics speakers timbre matched nicely. I've been a Technics fan ever since!
