Partner these speakers with a NAD3020 from the 1980s and you can't go wrong. In your face music. These speakers can shift some air. Put Bad Company 'I can't Get Enough' on your TT and the opening drum clout will knock your head off if at volume. These were the best speakers I heard in the 80s and can still be enjoyed today. £39 in 1967 and you couldn't buy mine for any money. Loads of bass, (old style cabinet rattling bass with the Nad) loads of midrange, and a sweet treble. Can't wait to hear my new AT-150MLX through them!
Got my sister a pair of bookshelf KEFs last year (approx £450) - I'll keep my Dovedales thank you.
But I guess it depends how big your room is - mine are in a furnished room approx 14feet by 12feet - maybe smaller than they were intended for. I can't say how they would sound in a big room.
