I did not expect good sound from the phono input on this 5.1 Receiver. But it is not bad. Other than my Onkyo TX-840, I like it better than any of my dozen vintage receivers from when the LP was king-- and a high design priority. I think it edges out the Sansui AU-5500. Of course my Nakamichi 610 preamp kills it. And I like the sound of my old tube Dyna PAS preamp a lot better. But in the world of receivers I will go even farther than not bad. It is listenable and, yes, enjoyable. An unexpected treat from Yamaha.
