Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

Hi!
I´m new here and wonder if someone could advice me. I bougth nearly a Kenwood KR-4140 amp which works nice. Then i bougth a Active sub on a flewmarket. My question is if I can use it with my amp. I have already testd it with a surround receiver with a mono kabel and it works fine. The Sub is from a system SYS-76HT and it have no speaker Contacts.
Kindly
Pekka

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

If the receiver has a pre-out socket I'd use that as the volume will be regulated by the volume control. If you use a tape-out socket you'll need a separate way to control the volume of the sub - in fact either way you'll need a way to adjust the volume of the sub to match the main speakers, and to roll off the higher frequencies (the receiver output will be full frequency range and not all 'system' subs have their own crossover.

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

Thank You for Your comment but the Denon support says that You must have a special sub pre out om Your amp to be able to connect this sub???? On the other way should this sub only be connected with mono cabel???

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

This probably means that the sub has no crossover or individual level controls? In this case I'd probably look elsewhere.

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

Yes the sub Denon DSW-76 has a Crossover adjustment Control????

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

OK, you seem to be answering your own question, but I had a look at the manual and yes the sub has it's own crossover network and level control. This is good. Unfortunately it's designed to be used with a single channel subwoofer output from an AV amp, which you already know. As your receiver has no mono output, you would need to either build or buy a stereo to mono converter circuit to convert the output from your receiver's pre out sockets to the mono signal your sub is expecting.

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

I would use one of the record out RCA jacks for subwoofer audio.

Re: Active Subwoofer to Amplifier?

Thank You for Your comment but this sub only works with mono Cable???? The subs Contact are mono in (one hole) and mono out (one hole)???
