Equaliser to work.

the more I read up the more confusing Im finding it.

Any help is much appreciated!

Here are basic instructions that should cover most equalizers/amplifiers.

Method 1 is for amplifiers with tape monitor switches. Basically you connect the equalizer as if it is a tape deck, then connect your tape deck to the equalizer.

Method 2 is for pre/power amplifiers (or integrated amplifiers with pre out/power in loop). With this method the equalizer goes between the preamp and power amp stages.

Be very carefull with the method of equalizer between the preamp and power amp stages. A long time ago I have burn my JBL speakers because 120 Volts pass through directely to the speakers when I was putting ON the audio system.
It is more secure to plug in the TAPE loop.

It would be difficult to make an equalizer to work with that amplifier, as the A-50 does not have pre-amp out/amp in jacks.
