JVC - SP55 midrange drivers needed

Hi group,

I am looking for replacement midrange drivers (2) for an old pair of JVC SP-55 speakers.

Can anyone help supply some?

Thanks,

Bow

I could help you narrow down "possible" suitable substitutes. I assume you are trying to find original OEM parts? I traveled to Japan off and on for 15 years with the Navy. There are people and places in and around the area of Tokyo known as Akihabara where these things could probably still be found. Unfortunately; I no longer have any contacts in Tokyo. Ask around, do you have anyone you may know stationed in Japan near Tokyo?

Thanks for your tip. Not impossible I could find people in Japan but it is a bit of a stretch for me.

What substitutes would you suggest?

Kind regards,

Bowen

What is your experience and skill level? Madisound, Meniscus Audio, Parts Express and others have a lot of raw speaker drivers. I couldn't find any info on your model. Are these midrange drivers cones, domes or other? What material do they look like (paper, plastic, metal, etc). Frame size and shape?, mounting hole size and shape? Do you know the "nominal" speaker system impedance?

I am 62 and started messing with electronics and speakers at age 14. I am a retired Engineer and Technician. So, I can help narrow things down for you but need as much info as you can give me. I'm happy to help; I'm retired and have plenty of spare time.

As a start, I recommend looking on the websites of the 3 speaker parts suppliers listed above. See if you can find anything similar in appearance and size and shape; we can then fine tune choices from there. meniscusaudio.com madisoundspeakerstore.com parts-express.com

Let me know.

Re: JVC - SP55 midrange drivers needed

My experience is intermediate. If it was a case of unplugging / soldering, a bit of modification on the enclosure, I'm happy to do that.

That aside I have already given the speakers to an audiophile with all the skills needed to do the work. He suggested that I also look here for the midrange drivers. The vibe I'm getting is these old speakers are difficult/impossible to find certain parts for.

Bottom line is that I'm looking for a modern replacement for the drivers that don't require too much modification to the enclosure. Thanks for the website tips that will help keep the price competitive.

Thanks,

Bowen
