mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

I was given a vintage onkyo tx-4500 mk11 receiver. When I set the stereo/mono indicator button in the stereo mode, music only comes out of one speaker. When I put the stereo/mono indicator button in the mono mode, music comes out of both speakers. What needs to be fixed?

Re: mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

Do you have the Dolby adapter installed? If not, do you have both jumpers installed on the back panel (Dolby in/out)?

Re: mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

I plead ignorance. I see nothing on back or front labeled Dolby. When I put the system in stereo position I see no green light and I only get sound out of the right speaker. Sorry for not knowing much.

Re: mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

Sorry for the misinformation; the mk II does not have Dolby jacks.
If the problem is in FM mode then the tuner has a problem. If it is with all inputs then the problem is in the pre-amp circuits.

Re: mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

it is with all inputs. So it may be in a circuit that involves the stereo/mono component of the receiver?

Re: mono/stereo control on Onkyo tx-4500 receiver

It sounds like a problem for a technician to deal with and not a simple fix.
