Need help with a Luxman K-8 cassette deck

Dadrepus's picture

I am trying to replace the 2 belts myself and have the schematic but I am not quite sure how the belts go on. I have it partially apart and only 1 belt was laying in the unit so either one was removed by a previous owner or I have ghosts in the house.
Got 2 belts 1 thin, 1thick. Anybody have any experience with this? Looking for advice. I know 1 belt has to go around the motor and flywheel. The other?

The other belt will need to go to the idler/sub system. Find the gear assembly between the take up and supply reels. the belt should attach to this.

Hope this helps!

I haven't worked on the specific model but a very thin belt is usually a counter belt (if you have a mechanical counter). One end of the belt will probably attach to the take up spindle, the other end to the counter.

No, the counter is digital. So that can't be it. My local shop just wanted too much to fix this, over $300. The deck is just not worth that much. I already have my BIC T-3M to listen to my old tapes with. I was given this and thought it would be a nice addition if i could get it working. My stereo integrated amp is Luxman. Someone here has uploaded the repair manual, thats where I got the schematic but it looks confusing to me. It only shows where some of the parts connect. not the belts.

Seems the flat belt drives the capstan, the square belt drives the takeup/rewind pulley.

Exactly right, that is called independent drive. More expensive decks that are not two motor drive use this.
