Onkyo TX-NR818 Receiver intermittently shutting down to standby then cycling back to on mode.....

Anyone on the forum familiar with the Onkyo TX-NR818?

I have one that is experiencing a problem in that the unit will be in the "on" mode and at times will intermittently
cycle to the "standby mode" and a short time later it will cycle back to the "on" mode.

It seems when the unit is cold and powered to on it will go thru this cycle for several minutes before it will stay on
and behave normally.

I suspect the problem to be on the primary power supply pc board (BAPS-1145) possibly in the standby relay circuitry.

Looking for some guidance on the best method to isolate the cause of the problem.

I have a set of schematics but not the service procedures or board layouts.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR818 Receiver intermittently shutting down to ...

I would suggest replacing the electrolytic capacitors on the switching power supply board, and looking for bad solder connections.

Thanks for the prompt reply.I'll research what capacitors are needed on the switching power supply board.

Will replace the electrolytic capacitors and see what happens.

I will post the results following the replacement of the caps.

Once again thanks for your input.
