pioneer SX-737 popping/clicking sound problem

Luv this old receiver but it pops thru the speakers and has a clicking sound inside close to the transformer. I am electronically challenged--Does it make sense to try to fix this oldie?? Where would one go in Southern Ct.??

Re: pioneer SX-737 popping/clicking sound problem

I'm currently servicing an SX-737 at the shop for a customer.
Besides the burned-out dial lamps, and age-related corrosion of the switches, etc....
LOADS of bad capacitors, causing numerous problems.

As I stated earlier, these receivers ALL need a thorough going-over after 40+ years.

Re: pioneer SX-737 popping/clicking sound problem

But where in S. Ct. does one go for repair??

Re: pioneer SX-737 popping/clicking sound problem

That line of receivers was made in the mid-70's.
Fine japanese craftsmanship - but long overdue for a restoration now, because it's a ticking time bomb otherwise.
Pull the plug and have it serviced by someone reputable, and it'll sing for another 40 years with piece of mind.

Re: pioneer SX-737 popping/clicking sound problem

Could be poor solder connections, dirty switches or controls or a bad relay.
