Popping sound from Meridian Power amplifier 105

lwong2's picture

Dear friends,

I have a set ( 2 units) of the the Meridian power amp model 105.Yesterday as i was player them,
some popping sound came from 1 of the amps.

I think it is likely caused by some faulty transistors. Can some one advise me which( item ) of the
the transistor is likely to give me this problem.

thank you for your advise.

Wong

Hello Friend,

Thank you for your comments. It seems that the problem is not so simple as to replace 1 or 2 trans etc.. Perhaps i may send my amp for repair. Otherwise i may cause more problem to it.

Best regards,

Wong

The popping sound could be any one of the transistors, or it could be a bad solder connection. This type of symptom may take quite a while to diagnose to the faulty component. Freeze spray can sometimes be useful by freezing one part at a time; heating with a hair dryer can also help.
The problem could also be the power supply. An oscilloscope may save you some time also. I recommend shorting the input to eliminate the possibility of external noise getting into the amp.
