Tube phono amp with a SS preamp, good idea ?

Hi All,
I have a SS preamp that has the usual built in op-amp phono amp. I am looking into a tube phono amp.
Will the great sound of a tube phono amp carry through the SS preamp more or less intact to my tube power amp?
Or, is it absolutely necessary to have a all tube preamp also? I just got the tube power amp, my first piece of tube gear, and am blown away by the sound quality. So I thought a tube phono amp would be a good next step without blowing the bank on a all tube pre amp that will not have all the switching and other features of my SS preamp.
Thanks for any thoughts, Mike

Considering the gain necessary for the phono amp, I would recommend a solid state pre-amp. You did not mention what cartridge you had; get a pre-amp or control amplifier that matches your cartridge.

I am in the process of finding the right amount of gain needed for my HOMC cart. I think around 46 dB will be ok. I would like to be able to use an all tube phono amp that has 38 dB gain, ok for MM but might have more noise with a HOMC at half the mV output of the MM.
