Wharfedale Dovedale SP and SP2's

Hi Folks,

I am new here but I am looking for information on a pair of Dovedale SP2's that I used to own, not the actual ones of course, but I am looking to build a 'new' pair. If anyone can provide me with cabinet dimensions, port diameter and depth, crossover information would be very useful also, maybe a sales brochure to be getting on with?

I bought the very last pair of SP2's out of Idle, Bradford, and my Dad had the last pair of Teesdales to be produced. Sadly, neither my Dad, now 87 going on 18, or I have these splendid examples anymore. I am keen to get the Dovedale SP2 replicas built. The difference between the SP and the SP2 model was essentially a different tweeter. The SP had a very harsh sounding dome tweeter and the SP2 had a ribbon tweeter I think, it was certainly a lot smoother than the original SP in my opinion. The Airedales, I never had the opportunity to hear those, anyone out there got a pair? Look forward to hearing from anyone!

Thank you, Nick

To attest to the quality of (at least the SPs), I built a pair in 1974 and today they are still working perfectly! I´ve had better speakers since ´74 but because of the emotional attachment I still use the Dovedales.

I would certainly agree that there are 'better' speakers available but I too like the Wharfedale Sound, especially of the SP2's. When making your cabinets, what drivers did you use? Would be interested to know since the likelyhood of me finding some originals is pretty slim.

Oops - my mistake. I heard my kit speakers called Dovedales and made the wrong assumption. I think mine are the UNIT 5´s. I don´t like the looks of the SPs. My photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10854568@N07/
