Re: FOSTEX R8

Hi there. I've a couple and crazy questions, and I'm looking for somebody with big heart (and knowledge). Maybe you can help me. I got a fostex E8, 8 track R2R machine in working order. I think this kind of R2R are only for "live recording" right? Can I use that guy if I want to record my CDs or vinyls in tape and can I hook it into my amp or receiver? or, I need necessarily a mixer if I want to do that? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: FOSTEX R8

Yes, you can record your vinyls and CDs with that machine.
To record vinyls you need to connect the TT to a receiver and then to the R2R, if the receiver has the capability of connecting 2 tapes and 1 TT then you have all you need.

As real life difference between the most subtle and strong sounds is too big, even for the modern recording devices, you need a compressor to do live recordings.

Re: FOSTEX R8

Thanks for the information.
Last couple of questions if you don't mind.
1. If I hook the fostex to my receiver (that has tape in, tape out and 2 phono inputs), which channels I've to choose if I want a stereo recording? (1,2 or 1,3 or 7,8 or 1,8???).
2. As I've 8 RCA plugs on the back of the R2R, which one is for the tape in and which one is for tape out?
3. Can I find a scheme on internet of how to connect each device with other? (I found the manual for the E8, but isn't clear for me. Just a 4 track R2R user).
Thanks again for your help.
