Gold Coins Silver Certificates Inside 1982 / 83 JBL 4312 Speakers

I bought a pair of JBL 4312 controlled monitor Speakers in 1992 at a attorneys estate sale that looked like a cat had scratched them all up.I took the veneer off that takes more time than putting new veneer on and they sat in the back of my closet for over 20 years with a lot of other vintage equipment I have stashed away in every closet in the house. My put up with all of it for over 35 years and finally told me to get rid of some and preferably all of this stuff.I started putting things for sale and got over 20 inquiries on how old the JBL speakers and what are the serial numbers.I took all the speakers out and I could tell the tweeters and midranges had never been taken out but someone had taken the woofers out.I had a hard time getting the woofers back in.These things are heavy so I asked my wife to help me hold them steady. We got one in and started to put the other one in and she asked me what that was in the back.Trying to sound like a expert I said those are two part crossovers that shape the sound. She then said I never knew they made these crossover things out of metal film containers.I thought nothing of it until I got 4 or 5 more people who only wanted these if they had the original woofers and crossovers. They didn’t care about the rest of the speaker.I again took the woofers out and wrote all the numbers down and as I was shining a flashlight on the 2 part crossovers I noticed one wasn’t hooked up to anything that was nailed to the back using a U shaped bracket so I took both of them out and couldn’t believe that they were metal film containers. The medium size one had several gold coins from the 1800’s and the other one that was larger had a wad of brand new silver certificates rolled up in it.Someone hid a small fortune in the back.I’m so glad I didn’t sell these. The only question I have is what makes the woofers and crossovers so desirable on the the original 4312 speakers.I’ve looked at the later JBL 2213h woofers and the backs are different than these and so are the crossovers.
