JVC KD-A66 Stereo Cassette Deck

Here is a picture of a JVC KD-A66 Cassette Deck sandwiched between an ADC Sound Shaper Two frequency equalizer and a Radio Shack amp. Just replaced the counter belt on the deck and it sounds great! The only thing I have not tested is its recording ability.

Re: JVC KD-A66 Stereo Cassette Deck

Greetings,
Nice Deck!, recently acquired one of these myself, in absolutely beautiful cosmetic condition, after a long search. Had one when I was much younger.
I will need to replace the counter belt myself and would like to confirm the belt size...
I believe it's part # VKB3000-012, which would be a SCX7.0 belt, alas I have not been able to track down the service manual for the 66 to confirm but do have the SM for the 33 and 55 models.

Can you confirm the SCX7.0 is the correct counter belt for the KD-A66??

Thanks in advance,

Re: JVC KD-A66 Stereo Cassette Deck

Hi there, my apologies for getting back to you late. You are correct. The belt # is SCX7.0 for the counter mechanism. It was a bear to replace but doable. There are many screws that you will need to take out to get access to the belt. I used a pick to assist with routing the belt around the pulleys. I took pictures of everything along the way so I could reassemble everything correctly.

My only problem with the deck is that the rewind operation is a little weak so some cassettes may not fully rewind. The playback and fast-forward work great so I know the reel motor is good. I am wondering if I may have a weak spring or some other issue causing the weakness. I will have to read up on the issue a little more.

Glad to hear that you have one of these decks and I hope that you are able to get many hours of play time out of it. I have a parts list for the deck if you need any other part #s verified.

Re: JVC KD-A66 Stereo Cassette Deck

Hi Randy,
Thanks very much for the confirmation and the heads up. Looks to be a beast to install....been getting some good results from the original belt by placing a small diameter rubber band around the counter reel, effectively increasing the reel diameter so the older belt has a little more grip. Will have to see how long it lasts!
Regardless will get a new belt on order.
Thanks for the kind offer regarding the parts list.
Cheers, Dan
