Re: Knight-Kit KG415 stereo reel to reel tape player

I found one of these for $12.00 in mint condition, although it was the portable version in suitcase not panelled. I understand the transport is by Viking. I haven't tried mine yet. How is the sound quality compare to others?

Re: Knight-Kit KG415 stereo reel to reel tape player

I came across this several years ago at a garage sale. The guy said he couldn't get it running. I got it for about 3 dollars. At first it didn't run well, but the more I ran it with some minor adjustments it kinda came back to life. In the long run I replaced all the electrolytic caps. It sounds good at 7 1/2 speed, but at 3 1/2 it has a bit of a wavy like sound. I'm a bit partial to those Vikings, I have an 86 and an 88 (both tube models) which sound very good to me (have replaced caps in both). I also have a Dokorder and an Akai and the Vikings sound equivalent. Enjoy your Knight-Kit. TK
