Re: NAD 3080 integrated amplifier

My 3080, purch 1980, still plays fine but the selector or volume knob sometimes drops left ch, some fiddles & comes good for a while, not sure if someone has damaged it as was used at work in retail store for a short time. Might it need visit to technician or some home help hints would be nice. Thanx Bruce

Re: NAD 3080 integrated amplifier

Hi Bruce,

The typical cause is oxidation of the contacts in the controls. Search for a product called De-Oxit manufactured by Caig Laboratories. Open the cover and using the included "plastic straw" spray into the openings of the controls. Do this with the power unplugged. Operate the controls to spread the chemical. You may have to do this a couple of times. It is okay if the chemical leaks onto other parts of the unit. You can clean this up with a Q-Tip.

The other cause could be broken solder connections where the control is electrically connected to the printed circuit board. This would require re-flowing the solder and would require solder and a soldering station.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob, I will track some down which I assume is different to the contact cleaner type sprays most stores have.Than need to get time to sit down & do the job properly.
Appreciate your advice
