Sherwood AM-8500G

Sherwood AM-8500G

I don't think this model was available in America. I use a plug adapter. It performs great!

Re: Sherwood AM-8500G

Thank you. It's a nice amplifier.
In my experience, Sherwood products are pretty darn good despite the less than average popularity. More for us!

Re: Sherwood AM-8500G

About what vintage is this amp? Early 1980s by chance?

Re: Sherwood AM-8500G

No, early 90's . If you have the chance to get one take it without hesitation and replace the old ICs with new ones like 'OPA 627 or 827 on dual mono adapter ... It's worth it.I made this substitution on my AM 7040 (substantially in order the same device) and it sounds better than my Yamaha MX 1000 ..very better ..

Re: Sherwood AM-8500G

The reason I ask, is because I am the original owner of a Sherwood S9600CP receiver, 1981. It's rated at 60 watts/channel. It still performs great, and has always sounded fantastic...even compared to Yamaha, Onkyo, NAD, Sony, Pioneer, JVC. I had roomates in college who had these other units.

I was thinking of shopping for a vintage Sherwood power amp.

Re: Sherwood AM-8500G

It's a good choice, believe me .I fall in love with my AM 7040 specially after replaced the IC in input stage . I suggest the this one or AM 8500 basically the same device as stated before: 200 watt rms, bi mono mosfet ( 4 x Hitachi J162 & 4 Hitachi K1058 for each side..) power amp .They are cheap and very easy to fix .Good luck .Feel free to ask , I will happy to help you .
