SPX-11000

SPX-11000

Didn't see these listed under Sansui/Speakers, (ends at the SPX-9700).
These were a pair of monsters I bought from a friend having a divorce sale along with a Realistic STA-2700 receiver and Optimus direct drive turntable.
I still have the receiver and turntable, but space limitations forced me to sell these.
They were more curiosity than anything else.
Two 17.5" drivers, lower is passive, and they required a lot of old fashioned power to make them sound good, (rated at 100W continuous and 350W peaks).
The grille was split into two, (they connect via a socket similar to a tube)

My understanding is they were fairly rare in the USA and maybe that is why there aren't many examples.

Re: SPX-11000

If you are needing a users manual for these speakers, it has now been posted to HiFi Engine as of Feb 22nd.

Re: SPX-11000

None of the 17.5" drivers are passive, in fact none of the drivers in this model are passive. All 16 drivers in a pair are powered. If one of the drivers isn't working, you may have to look internally, or look for a broken pin in the "vacuum tube type" connector between the speaker halves. I've had a pair of these SP-X11000 Earthshakers since new in 1979, and they can still shake the house. I should post a colour scan of the brochure for these one day (I do have it)...
