These are very nice small room receivers. (15 w rms/ channel) The FM reception is outstanding, and the phono preamp is very good. Because of the age of these units they need a complete replacement of all electrolytic caps)Before you even power them up). You can update the filter caps to 4700 mf to stiffen power supply. They are time consuming to work on and you should figure 4-5 hours to recap your first one. The controls and pots were inexpensive to start with, so spend considerable tie with Deoxit to clean them up. The Silver faced ones are quite rare.

re: 300

I think the silver faced units are early production models, the receiver IF strip uses tunable transformers instead of the ceramic filters of the later models.

re: 300

I picked up one of these from a garage sell for 10 bucks. It turned out to be a gem with it's very compact size but excellent sound. Under the hood it is much more sophisticated that you could ever imagine not knowing who designed this, Henry Kloss! Plus it's excellent phono preamp. Something about these very simple design with all the technical for the cost is so very coooool!

re: 300

Don't forget to give Tomlinson Holman credit. He designed the phono preamp circuit and went on to an influential career in cinema audio technology.
