I bought this receiver new in the fall of 1976 for 290.00. I used it as my main stereo for the next 30 years. I was made to believe It was not as hifi as Marantz, Sansui, etc, but after comparing it to the others, I find it performs as well as any of them, and all i have had done to it over 40+ years is have it cleaned and some bulbs replaced.

Beautiful reciver! Had it for about one year now and i had no problems with it! When i got it i've replaced the lamps and cleaned the pots and that was everything that it needed! A good reciver and the sound is fantastic! The bass is also nice and deep! If you'll find one just buy it! It would be the best investment!

I have this receiver for 30 years. It worked in a shop, every day all day for 25 years never had any problems with it. One problem has been and I didn't fixed yet. The ligts on the receiver (all) do not work. This problem started about 4 years ago.

re: AA-1050

Very good sounding and reliable receiver. Compared with other receivers in its range, I found it sounds very clear and pleasant and has a very nice drive/bass. As a Vinyl-lover it's a big plus this receiver has 2 phono inputs !! , which sounds pretty good either.
Definitely a 5-star for me.

Hi _Donnie!

Have you got the schematic of the missing 53109 protection board? (with relay)

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards

re: AA-1050

I have a copy of the complete service guide including missing diagrams "1) MFC PC board AA-5270A", "3) Power Supply board A5-5309", page 6 "IV FM Tuner section Adjustments".

My unit uses a protection board with a speaker relay - "Protection PC Board A-53109" which I have not been able to find circuit data anywhere. That's why I became a member here.
Well I decided to devote an entire weekend to reverse-engineering this board and will include this circuit with the rest if you are interested.

This is a great site, The pdf I downloaded is very good quality - much better than my photocopied-photocopied-photocopy etc...

re: AA-1050

Just fixed a protection problem on one of these and traced the relay drive part here http://i.imgur.com/nUDrju0.jpg Of course the problem was a leaky transistor in the dc detect portion which we have. No regrets.

re: AA-1050

Hello Donnie,
Did you manage to scan "Protection PC Board A-53109"? I am starting to restore my AA-1050, I bought last year. I have SM that not include this board. Is there any chance to send me a scan of it? I would be appreciate for that. BR, Tine

Phono inputs

Is there any difference between the two phono inputs?

Phono Inputs..

Hello. There is no difference between the two sets of Phono inputs, just there for extra convenience in case that you have a couple of turntables and want to keep them both in service and possibly run some comparisons between them.

Thank you for manual, helped

Thank you for manual, helped me find a broken wire.

Thank you very much for this

Thank you very much for this web site. It's so usefull !! :D

Thanks for the service manual.

I would like to thank you for the nice site and the access to these vintage manuals. I have just recently purchased both an Akai AA 1050, and a Pioneer SX 780, vintage receivers. I will be in the process of restoring both of them shortly. I remembered the great sound that I use to get with my first stereo receiver, and have not been able to find a sound like it since. So, I decided that the only way to get that sound back was to purchase a vintage receiver. Once again, I thank you for your generosity to share.
