Bowers and Wilkins 801

The model 801 is B&W's first fully professional monitor loudspeaker, the outcome of four years research employing totally new developments in measuring design technology.

Throughout both design and production model 801 is a truly 'no compromise' product where cost in every instance is secondary to performance.

The fact that this loudspeaker system was chosen by EMI as their classical music monitor at London Abbey Road Studios is sufficient proof of the unique quality of this product.

801/s-80/801 F enviro controls?

801F instructions were abig help -does anybody have info on the enviromental controls (the adjustments for mid and tweeter level on the back of the midrange housing)?
The rest of the owner's manual would be helpful if someone's got it?

B&W 801F

Hello, I had the chance to listen to these speakers side by side with three different pairs of speakers.MAGNAT,Definitive technology bipolar7006,JBL. That was the strangest experince. I switched back and forth for more than an hour. B&W's sounded muffled compared to all the others to my ears. I am so confused, the dynamics dropped, the bass was muddy, midrange was really muffled. Now, are my ears spoiled with too much openness in the sound. I tried hard to see the good side but couldn't. One thing I noticed, the high frequencies were sweeter and cleaner. My problem was basically with the midrange.
These came with a strange amp(Musical fidelity P180) and Perreaux SM3 preamp. I say strange because it is only a 80 watt AMP,yet it pumps far more power than my Mcintosh 150Watt amp. I had a look at the powersupply Caps and they were rediculously small.
Anyway, I am offered to buy the B&W's and I am confused.
I was also wondering what can the controls on the back of the midrange compartment do. Would they open up the midrange ? I wanted to try but couldn't .
please advise.... thanks
