re: AVR-2700

I appreciate any help, I have a Denon AVR-2700... I read the manual here, but can not seem to figure out how to get it to access the optical input. I have the digital switch pressed and the display says digital.... but none of the inputs seem to provide input to the receiver (the optical signal is coming from my Vizio GV47L tv).

Any suggestions? If I just use the rca jacks for the input will I get the same sound quality?
